The first stop will be the incredible Grand Egyptian Museum, recently constructed and moved from its original site in Tahrir Square to nearby Giza Pyramids. This mammoth task was a challenge due to the amount and size of some artifacts, such as the massive limestone statues of Pharaohs and sarcophaguses. The museum will take you back in time from ancient Egypt and its dynasties from the Old to Middle Kingdoms through Gods and Islamic rule. Artifacts range from treasures found in tombs of Kings and Queens to nobles and ordinary village folk. Included are the incredible treasures found in the tomb of the boy King Tutankhamun and his sarcophagus and a golden mask.
Next, you will be transferred to the district known as Old Cairo, the oldest and very unique area due to its ancient Mosques and important 'Khan Khalili Market.' Here, you will enjoy lunch at a traditional local restaurant with time to wander around the Old Mosques and Market for some exciting souvenirs popular with visitors from across the world.
The third stop of the city tour will be to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilisation to experience the real ancient civilizations of Egypt through many dynasties. Here, you will learn all about how life began in Egypt, dating back from biblical times and the different regions of Egypt that had an impact on society.
Finally, your last stop will be at the spectacular Citadel of Saladin, dating back to the first arrival of medieval Islam in Egypt and went on to rule for over 700 years. Since its early construction, built other additions, making the Citadel even more intriguing such as the enormous, ornate Muhammad Ali Mosque open to visitors. The whole Citadel existed through the Mamluk and Ottoman periods, with more recently added Museums full of remarkable history from old to modern times. The Citadel sits on the highest point of the Mokkatam Hills, giving it the most incredible views across Cairo, even to the Pyramids on a clear day!
Finally, you will return back to your hotel in Cairo for relaxation or any of the optional evening tours available.
